Sal Paradise asked:
Which album do you prefer? Both draw heavily on the Beatles, have one definitively great song, and are made by completely different bands.
Morning Glory and Definitely Maybe were voted the best British albums of all time by who, Oasis? That would be something they would do…

The Shins most def, what’s the story morning glory was reaaly great, but im constantly skipping songs, I can listen to oh, inverted the whole way through and not get bored.
The Shins are also AMAZING live.
For me this seems a weird comparison because Oasis are so big compared to the Shins (actually I’ve heard the Shins are bigger in the US…. they’re pretty obscure here in the UK). Also I pretty much grew up listening to What’s The Story, my parents were always playing it round the house so some of my earliest memories involve those songs. Thing is, I started listening to it again recently and though it was nice to relive some of that stuff, I wasn’t that amazed by it and it wasn’t as good as I remember it being. Whereas the Shins are one of my favourite bands now, I love Oh Inverted World and it hasn’t been overplayed to the point where i can’t stand to listen to it anymore. So I’m going with Oh Inverted World. I liked Chutes Too Narrow better though – my favourite song of theirs is Mine’s Not A High Horse.
It’s interesting what you say about the Beatles influence, I never really noticed that with The Shins but now you say it it makes sense.
(WTS) MG? was voted the 2nd best British album of all time, behind Oasis’ debut album, Definetly Maybe. And damnit, they deserve it! Morning Glory is a fantastic album, every song is amazing. I’ve never even heard of the other album.
Ten – Pearl Jam
Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? by far.
I like (What’s the Story) Morning Glory… it’s the best Oasis album in my opinion…Oh Inverted World is good as well
The Shins are good but definitely Oasis is the hands down winner.
