In case you’re not sure, here are some examples of artists who are from Manchester:
Stone Roses
Joy Division / New Order
The Smiths
Happy Mondays
Oasis
Inspiral Carpets
The Fall
Buzzcocks
Charlatans
James

Why isn’t Blur held in higher esteem?

Jason V asked:

I’ve been to England, and it seemed Oasis was the more popular band; I was even in a pub one night, and an Oasis sang came on and virtually everyone in the pub started singing along.

It is my understanding that Oasis is more popular than Blur, although personally I think Blur is the more esteemed band; Damon Albarn is brilliant. “Modern Life is Rubbish,” “Parklife,” and “The Great Escape” are obviously the best albums. And don’t get me wrong, I actually do like Oasis, I just like Blur way more (and yes I am aware of the fact liking them both is frowned upon.)

So why isn’t Blur more recognized as hugely significant band, it seems to me they reflect society way more than Oasis.
