I really like oasis, and Im not denying what they have acheived is extraordinary, but the more I listen to definately maybe, the more I realise there are only 6 or so good songs on it?
The lyrics are very plain, and they tend to repeat the first verse in the second verse, constantly.
What was it about that album that made it so exceptional?
Cheers guys.
Favorite albums from each year:
1988 — Surfer Rosa by Pixies
1989 — Bleach by Nirvana
1990 — A Brief History Of The Twentieth Century by Gang Of Four
1991 — Ten by Pearl Jam
1992 — Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
1993 — Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
1994 — Dookie by Green Day
1995 — (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis
1996 — Odelay by Beck
1997 — OK Computer by Radiohead
1998 — Car Wheels On A Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
1999 — Reaching To The Converted by Billy Bragg
2000 — Vini Vidi Vicious by the Hives
2001 — Is This It by the Strokes
2002 — When I Was Cruel by Elvis Costello
2003 — Chutes Too Narrow by the Shins
2004 — How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb by U2 (it was a weak year)
2005 — Get Behind Me Satan by the White Stripes
2006 — Boys and Girls In America by the Hold Steady
2007 — Sky Blue Sky by Wilco
2008 — Accelerate by R.E.M.
This was totally my list. Couple of surprises here. No band ended up getting more than one album on the list, and that was not by design. Also 80’s alt-rock legends R.E.M. ended up winning in 2008, although it was with a great return to form.
They haven’t come out with anything half-original or decent for over a decade and idiots have bought their recycled rubbish album and made it number one in the UK?! Honestly, have they no shame? I’d rather spend a tenner on a box of fireworks and shoving the roman candles up the Gallaghers cracks.
regardless of taste, the music is unoriginal – they haven’t developed or grown as a band musically at all – why bother buying a new album when it is a carbon copy of everything else they have recorded and released before? it’s a waste of money.
I absolutely LOVE Oasis. I liked them better when they just started out.Their first and second albums were masterpieces. They’re good even now, but the old Oasis had a different sort of a charm. Anyways, what is your all-time favourite Oasis song?
Mine’s Live Forever and Champagne Supernova ![]()
I also love The Verve, Kings Of Leon, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys and The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Bob Dylan, The Who and The *** Pistols from the older bands.
